The living room floor has 100+ year old, long leaf heart of pine floors that cover the entire main floor. This top grade material has very few knots. This tree from the Southeast US, became extinct in 1917, and is only obtainable by salvage from waterways or from very old buildings. The wood is much harder than any other type of pines because of the aging process it has undergone. |

The floor’s beautiful amber color blends with the Douglas vertical grain fir trim. The living room, with a 30 foot ceiling, has a nautical theme. |

There is a balcony over the living room entryway that has hidden lighting for the hanging of art work. The mantle and raised panels above, were custom made out of the same Douglas fir. The wood-burning fireplace has a gas starter. There is a French door that leads to a deck on the back of the house. From this deck, there is an aggregate path to the front of the house. |
Special attention was paid to the use of natural and electric lighting, with many dimmers, to best highlight the home’s features. Wood paneling and a customized 3 sided skylight allow for views of eagles flying from Dot Island, which is part of the view. Lighting in the living room’s semicircular bank of 10 windows makes this large open space feel cozy and intimate. |
