The kitchen was designed with the island as a stage. Buffets for up to 50 people have been held, and do not interfere with the cooking. Hundreds of hours of design time were put into this elegant kitchen, which includes commercial appliances. The commercial range has 4 gas burner with 2 electric burners adjacent. One solid piece of granite from Brazil with red garnets was used as the countertop by the sink and is 6 x14 feet. The island’s same granite counter top is about 6x12 feet with a built-in prep sink. There is electrical lighting around the perimeter, and halogen lighting from above. The Subzero refrigerator and Asko dishwasher are paneled with the same material as used in the cabinets, and all meld together for a seamless architectural quality.

14 layers of finish were used on the Northern Pine cabinets. This includes 4 different colors and various coats of varnish to create a translucent effect that is normally found only in a fine watercolor painting. Subsequently, at different times of the day, the finish takes on different characteristics, and warmly glows at night under the specialized lighting.

The exhaust hood of copper and stainless steel was custom built by Angor and has double exhaust fans. The area around the sink is vaulted on the east side to have plenty of skylights and an unobstructed view of Chuckanut Mountain.

Looking out the kitchen sink window helps you understand why visitors to this home call it “The Treetop House”. There is an informal office area just off the kitchen. The built-in desk and antique fish motif cornis’s use the same materials and fit perfectly with the kitchen. Built-in file drawers, bookcases, and cabinets keep the area uncluttered. Soffits throughout the area are Douglas fir cabinetry.

The Laundry room, and Pantry are adjacent to the Kitchen and both of these rooms have windows looking out onto the courtyard.

The door to the garage is very close to the kitchen and there is a ½ bath and a coat closet next to the laundry room and pantry.

There are two staircases going upstairs. A second staircase off the kitchen lead upstairs and the staircase going downstairs is matched to this staircase.

The back staircase, off the kitchen is used as an art gallery with a great vaulted ceiling and extra wide stairs. The steps go half way up to a mid landing with windows to a magnificent view. The steps continue up to a main landing between the Art Studio and Master bath.
